Kimberly is a force for good in the greater Miami Valley whose impact has been felt time and again.
While at the Dayton VA Medical Center, she facilitated outreach efforts to veterans in 16 counties. During this time, she secured a grant for cancer and lymphedema patients to provide them transportation, massage therapy, food delivery, and compression garments, and she also worked to designate a parking area for Purple Heart veterans. Kimberly improved the Medical Center aesthetically too, arranging educational lobby exhibits and coordinating grants to erect a statue of President Lincoln, and to improve the appearance of courtyards, walkways, and lighting.
Driven by a compassion for those in need, she formed the Dayton VA Veterans Food Pantry, which provides food and household items to thousands. And through the Greater Miami Valley Veteran Community, Kimberly helped create a 24/7 call line called VetsLink, an annual job fair called Vets Moving Forward, and a program to support veterans with dementia called the Alzheimer’s Military Task Force. She also worked to ensure qualified veterans received automobiles and, with Greenbacks’ Blessing of the Bikes, to help veterans with mobility issues receive AMBUCS trikes.
In addition, she worked with the Dayton Bar Association to provide legal aid to local veterans. Kimberly established an annual “Welcome Home” event which provides benefits information and health screenings for transitioning service members and their families. She has also organized events to honor Korean War veterans, Vietnam War veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart veterans, the four chaplains who gave their lives during rescue efforts of the Dorchester, and WWI veteran James Reese.
