Emergency Financial Assistance
The Veterans Service Commission provides financial assistance to eligible veterans, spouses, dependent children, surviving spouses, and active-duty personnel, their immediate family, on a need basis, which are temporary in nature. Examples of types of assistance are listed below.
- Housing Expenses
- Utilities
- Food/Hygiene
- Car Repairs
- Basic Living Expenses
To be eligible for Emergency Financial Assistance, the veteran or family member must have either an Ohio State ID or Ohio driver’s license; the veteran must have served at least one day of active duty outside of training; must have received a discharge under honorable conditions, must be a resident of Greene County, and must demonstrate a definite financial need. Assistance is intended for veterans or members of the Armed Forces or the spouse, surviving spouse, dependent parent, minor child or ward of a veteran or member of the Armed Forces who is a bona-fide resident of Greene County, Ohio.
The Veterans Service Commission considers many factors when determining financial need including income from work, benefits from other County, State and Federal Government agencies, your basic living expenses and total assets.
In order to determine if a veteran or family is eligible for financial assistance, the applicant must come for a face-to-face interview.
Applicants approved for financial assistance are also eligible for Money Management counseling.
