Richard entered the military in 1967, spending one year in Vietnam and obtaining the rank of Sgt.
He was hired by the City of Xenia in 1973 and spent 23 years in law enforcement.
He is a Life Member of the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans and the 1st Infantry Society. He has served as a Post Commander, Greene County Commander, 3rd District Commander, Dept. of Ohio Treasurer and appointed to two National Committees. He was able to raise funding for a new flag pole at Veterans Mound in Woodland Cemetery, a retired US Flag drop off box and more recently funding for a granite bench at the Greene County Veterans Memorial.
He has volunteered his time at the Community Based Out Patient Clinic in Springfield and for many years coordinated the placing of flags on Veteran’s graves during Memorial Day at Woodland Cemetery. He served 20 years on the local Selection Service Board 047 and has worked with Xenia High School counselors on Scholarships and Buckeye Boys State.
Richard has been married to his wife Connie, for nearly 60 years and they have one daughter, Mindy, and two grandsons Austin and Dylan
